TABER
ABRASION TESTER - STANDARD MATERIAL STRENGTH ASSESSMENT DEVICE
The
Taber Abrasion Tester is a specialized device used to assess the abrasion level
and strength of materials through a rotating friction mechanism. The product
provides crucial reference data to help businesses optimize their material
selection process.
OPERATING
PRINCIPLE & MAIN FUNCTIONS
• The upper part of
the device is designed to include a sample clamp and a pair of abrasive wheels.
• During operation,
the clamp containing the test sample is rotated by a motor, creating a driving
force that causes the abrasive wheels to rub directly against the sample
surface. • After a certain number of friction cycles as set, the device will
automatically stop.
• The operator removes
the sample and observes the wear level to assess the material's wear
resistance.
INTERNATIONAL
APPLICABLE STANDARDS
The product perfectly meets the most stringent wear
testing methods currently available, conforming to the following standards:
• DIN-53754,
DIN-53799, DIN-53109, DIN-52347.
• TAPPI-T 476.
• GB/T1768-2006.
• ASTM D 4157, ASTM
4060.
DETAILED

METHOD OF
EVALUATING RESULTS (HOW TO READ ERRORS AND CALCULATE WEAR).
To determine whether
your material is durable and scratch-resistant, after the machine has completed
the set number of cycles, we have two ways to evaluate the results:
1. Visual evaluation
(Observing the degree of damage) The simplest method is that after reaching the
set number of friction cycles, the inspector will observe whether the sample is
damaged or record the degree of damage on the material surface. This method
allows for a quick assessment of the surface appearance of the product after
the friction process.
2. Evaluation using
precise data (Calculating Wear Index)
To obtain specific
figures for comparing the quality of different materials, the principle is
used: The more a material is worn, the more its mass decreases. The procedure
is very simple:
• Step 1: Before
testing, use an accurate electronic scale to weigh the initial weight of the
sample.
• Step 2: Run the
machine to abrade the sample surface at the specified rotation speed.
• Step 3: After
testing, remove the sample and weigh it again.
• Step 4: Apply the
formula to calculate the Wear Index:
Wear Index =
Explanation of the
parameters in the formula:
• W1: Weight of the sample
before being put into the testing machine (Example: 100 grams).
• W2: The weight of the
sample after testing (e.g., the sample is worn down and lighter, weighing only
98 grams).
• W1-W2: This is the weight of
the material that has been worn away into dust (in this example, 100 - 98 = 2
grams).
• N: The number of
rotations the machine performed on the sample.
Simply put, the
smaller the Wear Index, the less material is lost. This means your product has
excellent durability and wear resistance. Conversely, the larger the index, the
more easily the material is worn down.
